MY WORK & EDUCATION
"Upon graduating from college with a BA degree, I started my working career at Disney Press in Manhattan, NY. After being employed for some time as an editorial assistant, I was “let go” because I was told I was too nice! It was at that moment I realized my calling was not in publishing. Unsure what direction to take, I returned to college and earned an AS Degree in Math and Science. The anatomy and physiology classes fascinated me so I continued on that path at the Ann Arbor Institute of Massage Therapy in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Graduating in 1997 with honors, I began a career in Massage Therapy and found helping people eradicate their muscle pain and find balance throughout was very rewarding. After spending time working in Michigan, New York, and Kansas, I opened my business in Leesburg, Virginia in 2004.
I learned the complexity and power of good nutrition, and confirmed by belief that a balanced life is of the utmost importance.
Always in search of more education and information, I enrolled in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City. During my time studying here, I learned the complexity and power of good nutrition, and confirmed my belief that a balanced life is of the utmost importance. I am delighted to be a Health Coach helping family and clients lead a balanced life.
To completely round out my education, I have been learning sound therapy and the therapeutic art of Tibetan Singing Bowls. I have (and continue to) study with my Shastri (Nepali Buddhist Teacher) Suren Shrestha at Atma Buti® Sound and Vibrational School. There is no way to write in words the amazing, beautiful feeling of transcendence to be had from Tibetan Singing Bowls. You must try it for yourself.
MY PERSONAL STORY
My story that led me to the work I do today was my childhood and growing up in the mountains of NY. I spent much of my time outdoors in nature. I exercised in the fresh air, walked on the earth barefoot, gazed at the starry night sky, had no devices that emitted EMF’s, ate from an organic vegetable garden, raised chickens and ate the eggs, laughed till it hurt, and let go of the day when head hit the pillow.
Looking back, I now know I experienced my surroundings as a clairsentient, a gift I use in my daily work.
When I was immersed in nature, I experienced a part of the natural world that most do not. I was very aware of the Universal Energy that touched every part life; the same energy that all individuals are affected by on a daily basis. During my time as a child I understood the world from a different perspective then most. Looking back, I now know I experienced my surroundings as a clairsentient, a gift I use in my daily work.
About 25 years after I left my childhood and the mountains of NY, I realized I was no longer the energetic, happy person immersed in nature. I found it difficult to laugh and I just struggled to get through the day. I often felt sick, but not sick enough to go to the doctor. I was doing my best to get through a very difficult divorce which ultimately took 15 years before I felt free from the clutches of that personal hell. I spent little to no time outdoors. The food I ate was good but not great. Insomnia ruled my nights, hard work laced with stress filled my days. I gained a lot of weight. I was not well and going down hill fast. I was determined to find joy again so I made hard core changes.
First, I began eating differently. I chose my food for its health value. Then I dropped all my stress, regardless of what it was because stress is the nucleus of all ills. I connected with an amazing Naturopath. I started spending more time outdoors and sitting on the earth. I started to notice the beauty in my life and realized there were so many wonderful things I had not been seeing because of my sick, sad, overweight, stressed, tired outlook on life. I lost weight, started sleeping better, and definitely started living in the moment. The happy girl I once was found her way back into me. My children noticed these changes more than anyone and my daughter calls me a “Happy Little Hippy” (which is the name of a song and I’m totally cool with my new title).
I started to notice the beauty in my life and realized there were so many wonderful things I had not been seeing because of my sick, sad, overweight, stressed, tired outlook on life.
Since 1997 I have worked with and advised countless individuals on their nutrition, muscles, chakras, and lives. And I am blessed to have learned so much about life from every one of them. Every time I meet a new client, I embrace the opportunity to learn something new. In my spare time I enjoy raising my 3 teenage children and spending time outdoors with them and my husband. I love eating healthy, history, reading and traveling. The latest loves of my life are our crazy kittens named Bow and Rain!”
